Franco Belgrano

Born in Monterosso (SP), Begrano has a degree in Chemical Engineering and began his career as a plant engineering technician with Dalmine S.p.A. of Milan in 1967.

In 1969 he returned to Genoa, where he still lives, and was hired by Italsider S.p.A as engineering technician for plant automation systems. His talent in this area allowed him to rise to the position of Manager and then Director of the Division in charge of Information Systems and Plant Automation.

In 1984 he was appointed Central Information Systems and Plant Automation Director in charge of design and operation of plant automation and the Information and Telecommunications Systems, directly responsible for the head offices,
plants in Taranto, Genoa, Novi Ligure and Turin and subsidiary companies, a position he later held for Ilva S.p.A. and Ilva Laminati Piani S.p.A.

At the same time he sat on the Boards of Directors of Sidercad S.p.A (1988-94) and NITCO S.p.A (1989-91) and, in 1993-94, of IRISA (International Systems Engineering and Automation Company) in Isfahan (Iran) and Orsi Automazione S.p.A and was Director and Chairman of ITO S.p.A.

He was one of the founding partners in Iso Sistemi s.r.l. and has been Managing Director since 1996.

He has been BeeCom s.r.l. Managing Director since 2005.

In 2007 he also became Smartware & DataMining s.r.l. Managing Director.

Belgrano taught Probability and Statistics and their industrial applications in the Faculty of Engineering of Genoa University between 1968 and 1982 and was a member of the Executive Committee for technological innovation in the area of steel mill automation for the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) between 1977 and 1982.

He has served as national Vice President of ANIPLA (Italian National Association for Automation) and president of the association's Ligurian division.

He has spoken at countless conferences, including many of international scope, and has written three volumes on Techniques in Applied Statistics  and numerous articles and memos on organisation, plants and production control.
