Founded in 2007 January, Smartware & Data Mining was originally a spin-off of the Biophysical and Electronic Engineering Department (DIBE) at Genoa University.
Spin-offs are industrial initiatives originating in research and know-how developed in university laboratories; Smartware & Data Mining draws on the experience of SmartLab at DIBE in the field of intelligent systems for application to data analysis and interpretation (a number of key SmartLab projects are described below).

Smartware & Data Mining, based in Genoa, was founded by:

  • Genoa University;
  • Prof. Davide Anguita (DIBE associate professor);
  • Iso Sistemi s.r.l., the majority shareholder, a company with many years of experience in information systems and industrial automation all over the world which has been working with Business Intelligence for some time;
  • MAC96 di C. Dambra e C. s.a.s, a consulting firm and service provider in the field of processing and interpretation of data, signals and images.

The Universities and Research Ministry selected the initiative to benefit from financing under Law 297 supporting research in science and technology.
